Gorey Celtic 5 - 1 Enniscorthy United

Finally after 7 weeks of games being called off due to bad weather, Celtic opened the new decade with a comprehensive hammering of current division 2 leaders Enniscorthy Utd in the 1st round of the Wexford Cup.
Our early season defeat away to this opposion was erased by a performance of passion and skill, which had the Enniscorthy outfit well beaten long before the final whistle.

Celtic were shocked as early as the 5th minute, when hestitant defending allowed Enniscorthy to poach an early lead. Celtic went on the offensive looking for an equaliser, a succession of corners failing to trouble the Utd keeper. On 17 minutes Celtics efforts were rewarded, a handball in the penalty area, the resultant penalty was dispatced with style by Teirnan O'Gara.
At this stage it was becoming obvious that Enniscorthy were starting to struggle with the pace and power of the Celtic attacks, as the half wore on the control of proceedings by Danny Reilly and William Doyle was evidant in the number of chances that Celtic were creating.
On 30 mins good work by Phelim Gallaher, who set up Tiernan O'Gara, only for the referee to have judged that O'Gara had strayed into an offside position.
Celtics 2nd goal came on 35 minutes, excellent build up play, set up O'Gara to fire home from 18 yards. The workrate of Gallaher and O'Gara upfront were causing Enniscorthy major problems as half time approached.

H.T. 2-1

Celtic started the 2nd period as they finished the 1st, always trying to get the ball down and play, William Doyle's delightful chip into the top corner from 20 yards on 55mins saw Celtic take a 3-1 lead. Celtic were now in cruise control and opening up Enniscorthy at will, Joe Roche entered the game on 70 minutes, on 75 minutes his turn and volley home from 25 yards saw Celtic go 4-1 up, William Keogh on 80 mins, firing home from close range saw Celtic go 5-1 up.
Ger Carey, Barry Glencross, David Gahan, and Tiernan O Gara all had chances to increase the lead before the final whistle.

A Totally dominant display from Celtic which had Enniscorthy chasing shadows for long periods of the 2nd half. A great start to 2010.
If we have any ambitions in overhauling the leading teams or having a good cup run, this type of performance has to be the norm.
As a team yesterday, were defensively sound, hard working and creative in the middle and two lads upfront that were hungry and aggressive.
