Rosslare Port 5 - 1 Gorey Celtic C

Gorey Celtic's 3rd team's 2nd league game featured a difficult away trip to Rosslare Port, Celtic could see a tough game was in prospect from the outset with the home team featuring several players of 6'3" and over.

The game started badly for Celtic with two goals coming early and in quick succession both conceded from corners on a very narrow pitch.
The first half featured Celtic trying to come to terms with the long ball game of the gigantic opposition. Celtic while appearing a little stunned by the early goals continued to play a passing midfield game and were caught in possession on a number of occasions. Celtic came close with Darren O'Mahony blasting over the bar from close range in the first period ,but first half chances were fairly limited.

H.T.: 2-0

Celtics first half failure to meet the tough physical challenge presented saw the introduction of Tom Crofts at centre back and Kris Swinton in midfield who added power to the Celtic formation after the halftime whistle . Celtic rallied in the second half following a stern talk by John Murphy at half time, with Paddy Callery and Mark Walsh making many attacking forrays into the oppositions half.
However Celtic were punished by the Rosslare team 15mins into the second half. Andy Fleming was introduced to the celtic midfield following the 3rd goal. Celtic created a number of chances including a goalmouth backheel by Paul Sweeny and Celtics attacking paid off when Darren O'Mahony made it 3-1 firing to the net from inside the Rosslare penalty area. Celtic continued to battle but two soft, late goals put paid to any dramatic comeback.
The fourth coming from a long distance freekick and the fifth when a Rosslare player broke from a self admittedly offside position a few yards into the Celtic half.

Celtic took the fight to Rosslare in the second half, but were second best on the day, with the Rosslare Port men using their long ball wind assisted game plan and their towering physical presence on a small pitch to their full advantage.
Best for celtic were Pa Murphy, with Paddy Callery and Mark Walsh also showing well in the second half.
