Moyne Rangers 2 - 1 Gorey Celtic B
A soft penalty in Enniscorthy denied Celtics B team a deserved point in their away game vs Moyne Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
Celtic were 1 down after only 10 mins of play, a Moyne attacker surely in an offside position, finishing from a couple of yards after the winger had swung in a cross/shot. The ref waving away any Celtic protests. The goal really unsettled Celtic and they found it hard to put their mark on the game, poor passing and coming out 2nd best in most 50/50 tackles.
30 mins into the game Celtic made it 1-1, some nice interplay between Steven Finn and Chris Sheridan with the latter putting in a great cross for Paul Hayden to get his first of the season. Celtic were now back in the game and grew in confidence and controlled the remainder of the half without testing the Moyne keeper any further.
H.T.: 1-1
Celtic started the 2nd half as the first ended but were now starting to create the chances that were lacking in the 1st period, then on 60 mins, a soft penalty was awarded to Moyne, the attack running onto a through ball and colliding with the Celtic keeper who had stayed on his feet, to the amazement of both teams the ref pointed to the spot, Moyne gratefully accepting the gift.
For the last 25 mins Celtic were camped in the Moyne half and launched attack after attack but on many occasions the decision making or the final ball was their down fall, holding onto the ball too long and getting caught in posession or putting in a poor cross. That said Celtic had more than enough chances to at least get a point.
Team: Ken Price, Steven Finn, Brian Maher, Chris Cullen, Padraig Roberts, Chris Sheridan, Joe Roche, John Lavery, Paul Hayden, Steve Allen, David Fitzgerald.
Subs: Alan McArdle for Sheridan ( 60 mins), Robbie Bent for Roberts (65 mins), Cathair Hogan for Fitzgerald (65 mins).
