Gorey Celtic B 3 - 0 Corach Ramblers
Celtics B team were the only side in action on home turf over the weekend and came up against a strong challenge from a good Corach Ramblers team.
An early goal coming in the 12th minute settle Celtic into this game, a goalmouth scrammble being finished from close range by Padraic Moran. Celtic went on from this early goal to have plenty more chances but found the Corach keeper to be in great form making several good saves to keep his side in the game.
As the game went on Corach came more into it as an attacking force, keeping the Celtic back four and goalkeeper busy with a few meaningful attacks, it was one of these Corach attacks that led to Celtics 2nd goal on 35 mins, Moran again involved, catching Corach as they pushed forward for a equalizer, breaking down the left side of midfield and squaring the ball across for John Lavery to finish from close range. Celtic went for the kill at this stage and only for the brilliance of the Corach keeper they could have had a very comfortable 2nd half.
H.T.: 2 - 0
The 2nd half began with the two teams going in search of goals, Celtic looking for a 3rd to kill the game, Corach looking for a lifeline back into it. Corach had Celtic on the backfoot for long periods of the 2nd half but found the strong Celtic back four a difficult wall to pass. Celtic content to soak up the pressure and catch Corach on the break as they pushed forward, creating plenty of chances but just couldnt find the finish to some fine counter-attacking football.
The 3rd goal and the best of the game, arrived with 10 mins remaining involving at least 5 Celtic players playing nice one touch pass and move football, it started off with Celtics left back, Ken Price picking the ball up from the edge of his own penalty area, and 10 to 15 passes later, being finished off by Steve Allen, beating two defenders and scoring from a tight angle with a great strike across the keeper.
3 clean sheets in a row with 9 goals scored, a great team performance with everyone giving 100% effort.
