Rosslare Strand 1 - 3 Gorey Celtic
Celtic made the long journey down to the seaside on Sunday and came away with a valuable 3 points.
Celtic opened brightly and made all the early running. On a good pitch Celtics crisp passing and movement was causing the Rosslare defence plenty of problems,
within the first twenty minutes, Celtic had a number of clear cut chances that should have seen them three goals to the good.
William Keogh, Danny Reilly and William Doyle all having efforts that should have resulted in goals.
On 25 minutes, William Doyle opened Celtics account, finishing from close range. Celtic were then forced to adjust the team, Dave Gahan having to be replaced due to a "dead leg". Celtic at this stage were totally dominant, their 2nd came via last seasons top scorer David O Brien, who cheekly went around the Rosslare keeper in the 6 yard box on 35mins.
A rout looked on the cards, Rosslare were offering very little, whilst Celtic looked to increase their lead at every attack.
Celtic should have been out of sight, only 2 goals to show for their efforts, whilst a 5 or 6 goal tally would have been a fairer reflection of their dominance at half-time.
H.T.: 0 - 0
Celtic dont do easy!!! After dominating the first 45 mins and the early stages of the 2nd half, they began to get sloppy, misplaced passing being our biggest problem, Rosslare
started to enjoy the best period of the game, on 60 minutes, aided by an scandalous "onside" decision by the referee, Rosslare pulled a goal back.
Celtic had to enjure a 10 minute period of sustained pressure. Ger Carey was introduced to the action on 70 minutes, within 5 minutes, a peice of Carey magic opened the
Rosslare defence, his cross into the 6 yard box was finished by David O Brien.
This seemed to totally deflate Rosslare, Celtic dominated the remaining 15 minutes
and should have increased their their lead.
A long journey, made worthwhile with 3 points in the bag. We mixed the good with the bad, but overall fully deserving of the victory.
Certainly a major improvement on the previous weeks performace.
