Park Hotspur 0 - 4 Gorey Celtic B
Celtic's B team made the trip to Wexford on Sunday and returned home with the 3 point in an easier than expected 4-0 win.
Celtics cause wasnt helped with they had 3 very late cry-offs, goalkeeper Sam Griffith and midfielders Chris Sheridan and Paul Hayden, meaning they had to travelled with only 11 players with 2 players from the 3rd team doing sub after they had played earlier in the morning.
To their credit the players forgot about what had went on and took the field with the perfect attitude and the poor surface of the pitch dictating the way in they play forcing them to change from their usual passing game to playing long balls into the corners for the wingers to get on the end of and putting plenty of crosses into the penalty area.
This new gameplan bore fruit for the first goal, Terry Carey getting on the end of a ball into the corner, beating the defender and putting in a cross for Phelim Gallagher to get on the end of, Celtic's 2nd goal just before half-time was very similar to the first, only this time instead of a Celtic player getting on the end of the cross it was a Park Hotspur defender who could only divert the ball pass his own keeper. At this stage Celtic were looking comfortable.
H.T.: 0-2
Park Hotspur really came at Celtic at the start of the 2nd and gave the Celtic back 4 alot more to think about but they couldnt find a way past the strong Celtic defensive wall, marshalled well by stand-in keeper Padraig Roberts. Park Hotspur were getting frustrated and in an effort to get the goal they needed, started to pour more men forward leaving plenty of space for the Celtic midfiels to break into.
Against the run of play, Celtic's Gallagher got his 2nd and the killer 3rd goal, a goalmouth scrammble following a dangerous corner, Gallerher was in the right place to blast the ball home from close range. This goal tore the heart from a battling Park Hotspur side and Celtic went on to control the remainder.
The forth and final goal was a Joe Roche special, the ball breaking to him 25 yards from goal and with a swing of this left boot, the ball found itself buried into the top corner, the keeper not even making and effort to save it, he just waved it goodbye as it flew passed him.
Another good 3 points leave us sitting top of the table after 4 games, nothing is won in September, 18 games, 18 battles to go.
Team: Padraig Roberts, Steven Finn, Brian Maher, Chris Cullen, Alan McArdle, Terry Carey, Joe Roche, John Lavery, John Nolan, Phelim Gallagher, David Fitzgerald.
