Tombrack 0 - 3 Gorey Celtic C
Celtics sixth league game of the season saw the Celts make their third away trip in a row. The latest trip featuring a short spin to Tombrack just outside Ferns for a 1pm kick-off. The Celtic lineup saw three new players recalled to replenish the six missing and injured players from last week’s panel.
All three of the game’s goals arrived in the first half of the game giving the Celts a solid 3-0 away victory. The opening chance was created after 2mins when Sean Feeney headed just wide of the left post from a good Ken Byrne cross. The Celts were then forced to make a early substitution after 9 mins with Mike Hassett coming on for Cathair Hogan who received an unexpected blow from the ball to the right eye.
The opening goal arrived just one minute later when Liam Clarke floated in a beautifully weighted corner which left the keeper with no option but to parry the ball outward toward the waiting Barry Glencross who then guided a cushioned header diagonally into the top corner of the net. The next opportunity saw Colin McShane dispatch to the net only for the referee to rule offside on the eleventh minute. The 30th min saw Liam Clarke force the Tombrack custodian to tip the ball over the crossbar from a vicious free-kick. Two minutes later Colin McShane came close when he produced a side-footed lob just to the right of the post.
The 2nd goal arrived on the 40th minute to making the score-line 2-0. It occurred when Mike Hassett won the ball in a midfield area and then instigated some nice interplay between Feeney and McShane only for the ball to sit up nicely just inside the penalty area. Mike expertly dispatched an unstoppable left footed downward volley diagonally across the keeper to rattle the lower right corner of the net.
The third soon followed on the 44th min when Captain marvel Pa Murphy found Darren O’Mahony with a spectacular long ball pass only for Darren to dispatch a controlled mid height lob over a falling keeper

The second half saw Celtic create numerous chances, the first fell to Colin McShane who launched a nice left footed shot just wide of the post following some good setup play by O'Mahony down the right wing. The next occurred after 51min when Sean Feeney picked up the ball in the midfield area and drove forward into the Tombrack penalty area only for the ball to be picked off his foot at the last second. On the 55min Barry Glencross seized possession in central midfield and slotted a defence splitting pass through the centre picking out O'Mahony who blasted over the bar. After 58min Liam Clarke dispatched a long range right footed effort which O'Mahony followed up only for the keeper to make a close range save. The 67th min saw Damien Mordalski introduced in place of Ken Byrne. Darren O'Mahony once again came close on the 73rd min heading over the bar from a left sided Clarke cross.
Tombrack carved out an opening just before full time only for shay to pluck a high range effort out of the air in the middle of the penalty area.
Celtic once again produced a solid defensive display with some new additions filling in comfortably . The centre midfield partnership of Sean Feeney and Barry Glencross saw both produce commanding performances in anchoring the midfield .The forwards and wide-men created numerous opportunities some of which were well finished resulting in three fine goals.
All in all a third consecutive away win in succession keeps the Celts in contention with six of twenty league games played so far.
