Gorey Celtic 6 - 0 Clontarf FC
Celtic were hosts to Dublin outfit Clontarf FC, from the Amatuer League in the first round of the Leinster Junior cup, in Umbro Park on Sunday.
Celtic recorded an emphatic 6-0 win, playing their best football of the season so far. The "Celts" were superior in every department and could have won by a greater margin.
William Doyle opened the scoring on 15 minutes, his turn and shot from 18 yards finding the top corner, not to be outdone David O'Brien fired a tremendous 25 yard shot to make it 2-0 after 25 minutes.
On 30 mins, Celtic were forced to readjust, as Centre Back Dave Melia was forced off with a leg injury.
Celtic were totally dominant and it was a major surprise that half time saw Celtic only 2 goals to the good.
H.T.: 2-0
The 2nd half saw Celtic go on the rampage, theie 3rd goal coming from Wes Fitzpatrick on 55 minutes. On 60 minutes saw Celtic go down to 10 men, Danny Reilly being harshly given his 2nd yellow card.
Rather than shut up shop, Celtic went to a 4-3-2 formation, further goals from Wes(2) and David O'Brien
only highlighted the gulf in class. By the final whistle Clontarf were simply chasing shadows, with 10 man Celtic playing possession football.
A confidence boosting win, our best performance of the season. It would be easy to go overboard with praise, but yesterdays performance was as good as anything we produced last season.
