Wexford Celtic 0 - 3 Gorey Celtic
Celtic made the journey down to Wexford Town on Sunday Morning last, on the back of their previous weeks victory over Courtown in the Leinster Junior Cup, and were back to the bread and butter of league action against 2nd placed Wexford Celtic.
Opon arrival it was obvious that the Wexford Celtic pitch was not suitable for " pretty " football. The players were asked to vary their normal game and go semi direct, and play a no nonsense game in the Wexford Celtic half.
Wexford Celtic opened the brighter and put Celtic on the back foot in the opening 5 minutes, Celtics opening goal game somewhat against the run of play, William Doyles glanced header from 6 yards finding the top corner of the Wexford net. This seemed to instill confidence into the players, on 15 minutes Celtic increased their lead, Craig Connor firing home from 20 yards.
Celtic at this stage were rampant, David O Brien came close on two occasions, beating his marker at will, his two efforts going narrowly wide. On 44 minutes Will Doyle made it 3, with a 15 yards screamer, a left foot volley that gave the Wexford keeper no chance.
H.T.:0-3
Possibly the best 45 minutes of the season, Jack having virtually nothing to do, the back 4 solid, midfield lording possession and Phelim Gallagher and Wes Fitzpatrick up front working their socks off,
The players were asked to keep it simple for the 2nd period, not to go chasing goals but stay defensively sound. This worked, whilst Wexford enjoyed more possession they never seriously looked like scoring, as the 2nd half progressed it looked as if Celtic would add to their lead, long before the final whistle Wexford looked a well beaten outfit.
A great 3 points on the road, the next 4 weeks will tell a lot for the 1st team. With Christmas break looming, and the January cup competitions, it is essential that we start to put pressure on the league leaders by winning as many games pre-xmas as possible,
