Gorey Celtic 1 - 2 Campile

Celtics unbeaten 7 game run ame to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon, with a very lethargic Celtic going down to an O.G and a very controversial penalty.

The opening 45 minutes saw Celtic produce their worst 45 minutes of the season, Celtic got an early warning of Campiles intent, with a shot from 15 yards that hit the Celtic crossbar after 6 minutes, Celtic were strangely off colour, with Campile winning the midfield battle it was very much back to the wall stuff, with a succession of Campile corners putting the celtic defence under major pressure.
The opening goal came after 25 minutes, a long shot taking a wicked deflection off David Melia, as the first half progressed Celtic started to get a grip on proceeding, a clearly unwell Will Doyle was replaced on 35 mins, as half time approached celtic at last started to threathen the Campile defence, it has to be mentioned that current Wexford Oscar Traynor centre back Dax Howlin was having an massive game at the heart of the Campile defence.

0-1

Celtics 2nd half response was a major improvement on the opening 45 minutes, showing more urgency and bite, Celtic were starting to take a stranglehold on the game, with David O Brien and Craig Connor flying on both wings it seemed only a matter of time before Celtic would find an equaliser.
On 70 minutes came the moment of controversy, a free kick into the Celtic penalty area saw Celtic defenders marking their opposition attackers, a Campile attacker fell to the floor claiming he was dragged down, Danny Reilly was pulled to the gound before the ball arrived into the penaly box, Referee Alan Murphy blew his whistle amazingly he awarded a penalty, despite Celtics protests that Danny Reilly had been fouled first and his own admission that he did not know what player had committed the foul, the penalty stood.
Big jack got a hand to the powerfully struck penalty, but to no avail, the power in the shot hitting the back of the net.

20 minutes remaining and 2-0 down it would have been easy for Celtic to throw in the towel, to their credit they battled back into the game, on 82 mins Phelim Gallaher gave Celtic brief hope, firing home from close range. With 5 minutes remaining Celtic were reduced to 10 men. Wes Fitzpatrick being shown a straight red card.
The incident in front of the Campile dug out and supporters earning the wrath of a referee who was slowly losing the plot. Amazingly the Campile player was able to continue until the final whistle.
The remaining 5 minutes saw Celtic push forward in search of an equaliser, but to no avail. The game became very stop start, which resulted in Celtic not being able to gather a head of steam.

A disappointing performance, the 1st half being totally forgetable, we came more into the game during the 2nd period.
Campile are a decent workmanlike team, who wont be far away at seasons end. They are very streetwise, being able to win frees and " work with" referees. Celtic on yesterdays showing were very quiet and maybe a little too honest.
