Gorey Celtic 0 - 0 Anchor United
The first half was a really poor affair, in which Celtic looked lethargic, lacking in ideas and finding Anchor Utd well organised defence a hard nut to crack. Big Jack came to Celtic rescue with a fine close range save on 30 mins. This was the only chance in an otherwise forgetable 1st half, in which Celtic huffed and puffed without ever looking like scoring.
H.T.: 0-0
On the resumption Celtic looked far livelier. Trying to play a crisp passing game Celtic started to take complete control on proceedings, Anchor decided that they came to Gorey for a point, happy to withdraw a forward into Midfield and play 5 in midfield in a hope of crowding out Celtic. Anchor used every trick in the book to slow play down,
taking there time over goal kicks and free kicks and the novel idea from their bench to throw a ball onto the playing area which lead to the referee having to stop play on numerous occasions.
A real case of one team trying to win a game and one team determined not to lose a game.
As the 2nd half progressed Celtic started to create clear chances, David O Brien coming close on a number of occasions. With 10 minutes remaining the best chance of the game fell to Danny Reilly, whos shot from 18 yards went narrowly wide, on 83 mins another close range effort from Reilly was scrabbled clear. The remaining minutes saw
Celtic get more and more desperate as Anchor clung on to their point.
A disappointing result, in which Celtic never really hit their peak. Certainly the stop start nature of the game did not help.
