Gorey Celtic 2nd 6 - 2 Castledockrell
Celtic opened their Div 4 league campaign with an emphatic home win over Castledockrell.
A totally one sided game in which Celtic played some wonderful attacking football. Celtic had to wait until 25 mins to open their account with John Lavery opening the
scoring.
Celtic Keeper Sam Griffith came to the rescue on 35 mins, saving well from close range after a rare Castledockrell attack. John Lavery increased Celtics lead on 40 minutes.
A totally dominant Celtic went into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.
H.T.: 2-0
The expected fightback from Castledockrell never materialised, Celtic went on an attacking spree, further goals from John Lavery (55 mins Hat-trick), Terry Carey (65), a fine 30 yard Lob from Steve Allen on 70 mins made it 5, and a wonderful headed effort from 10 yards from Davie Fitz on 75 mins saw Celtic reach 6.
At this stage a double figure score looked on the cards, Celtic were attacking at will and still creating chances, In fairness to Castledockrell, the kept their pride intact with
2 goals on 85 mins and a 90 minute penalty.
A superb start to the campaign, with a really impressive display. Very big performances from Chris Sheridan, Joe Roche and John Lavery.
Team: Sam Griffith, Steven Finn, Brian Maher, Chris Cullen, Padraig Roberts, Chris Sheridan, Joe Roche, John Lavery, John Nolan, Terry Carey, David Fitzgerald.
