Nottingham Forest Trip
Gorey Celtic under 14s had a great Pre-season workout as guests of Nottingham Forest last weekend where they crambed in shopping, training, a match, watched a live game, ten pin bowling, pool, snooker, table tennis,in between the grub.
Started off early Friday morning when the group were all in great form and after a slight delay we were on our way, leaving Gorey for Dublin airport at 4.30am, arriving in Nottingham just before Lunch-time. After a quick lunch Jim Higgins, the academy recruitment officer put the boys through there paces with a great session on counter attacking which the lads realy enjoyed.
After a quick wash and dinner, we all went bowling where the crack was ninety and after a bit of friendly gambling it was midfield maestro Jared "Ten Pin" McGirr who stole the money.
Early start on Saturday for our game where the boys aqquited themselves really well and considering the opposition had French, English and Welsh trialists we where always up against it. Losing 3 early goals left us an up hill battle, but we did get the goal of the game from our own star Ross Reardon who smashed in a 25 yarder that had the French trialist keeper well beaten.
Great battling displays from Rocco, Sean, Doran and jay cullen and the tirless work load of the 2 Adams and Jared, Rossi, Lee and Jay Finn in midfield. Joe Mac, Peter & Garto also putting in great shifts.
For me the best thing to take from a pre-season weekend was not the score but the team bonded and fought for each other against a classy side who weighed in with four 2nd half goals.
Then after quick lunch it was off to the City ground where Forest drew 1-1 in a poorish game against Norwich City. After dinner the other McGirr ,"The Claw" Ian took the money in the table tennis competition, beating his son jared in the final so don't ever play for money against a McGirr!!!!
Great weekend had by all and will be a stronger side and will learn from the experience.
Big thanks to all at Nottingham Forest F.C.

Under 8/Acedamy
The new Wexford Under 8 league will run side by side with our Academy this year.
The first Under 8 League match is against Rathnure at home on Saturday 4th of September 10.00.
For each match we will take a selection of players to participate in the match and the aim is that the rest of the children will enjoy full academy as normal.
If your child was born in 2002 then he/she is Under 8, 2003 Under 7, 2004 Under 6 etc.
We need to register the players with the League so please complete the registration forms and submit a COPY of your childs Birth Cert. If you do not wish for your child to take part in league matches(too young etc) thats no problem, then just fill in the registration form and pay the €25 academy fee(no birth cert needed)
Please ensure your child wears plain white shorts and plain white socks to academy and is always wearing shin pads.

Under 10 Girls
We had 2 of our under 10 girls teams taking part in the Bunclody Tournament last weekend.
First of all we have to pay compliments to Bunclody on a well run tournament and the girls got plenty of football before the start of the new season.
First up we had our new U10 team in their very first outing as a team, who took on the hosts in a very good game in which the Bunclody team edged out winners. Becky Yeats did a sterling job in the goal for our girls.
Our first team took on Forth Celtic it their first game and this was a cracker with chances at both ends, neither team could finish of until Forth Celtic got a late winner and our girls were unlucky to lose this one 1-0.
.Both teams competed very well in each of their next games with our first geam reaching the final of the shield against our neighbours Courtown Hibs.
The final was a very close affair in football terms with both teams competing for every ball , our Celtic girls took the lead through Courtney Masterson but the Courtown girls hit back minutes later and then took the lead, a quick reshuffle was in order for of girls with Amy Wilson pushed up front on her own.
This move was a turning point in the game with Amy leveling the game after a brilliant through ball from Courtney, Amy soon added to her tally after another good move from the Celtic girls to put the Gorey girls 3-2 up with only a few minutes to go but the girl weren't finished yet with Amy finishing the game hat-trick hero after sloting home a superb strike to give the girls their first taste of sliverware.
It was a well earned victory in the shield final and a big well done to Jason and Tina from all in the Club.
Under 10 Panel: Caragh Clarke, Katie Daly, Katie Murray, Caoimbie o'Sullivon, Molly Maher, Amy Wilson, Ella Rice, Stacey Lavery, Niamh Woolcock, Nikki Woolcock, Becky Yeates, Paige Tanner, Amber Donohoe, Romy Nolan, Kim Doyle, Courtney Masterson.

F.A.I. Summer Camp
We had a very successful FAI summer soccer schools camp this year with the largest number of kids attending than the previous 2 years.
The weather was perfect for football and it was the first year 6 year old kids could take part and we had 9 young lads who where coached by our club member Tiernan O'Gara, the perfect coach for this age group. Along with Tiernan we had Tina and John Clarke our underage coaches, Aidan McCann who plays for Wexford Youths FC and Thomas Elmes who was just back from representing Ireland in Croatia in Futsal and last a quick mention of the head coach John Burke a local school teacher who was fantastic with the kids.
I would like to Thank Nicky and Sammy for their help at the ground and well done for having the pitches and astro court in top condition.
Finally I would wish that the camp continues to grow as this is a great way for us as a club to get new members and showcase our ground to the wider public.
